Mail forwarding/POP3 (from other email accounts)

We understand that changing email providers is a tough thing to do, and we want to help ensure it is as easy as possible.

Most mail services have an email forwarding feature that allows your email from an existing account to be forwarded to your new ProtonMail account.

POP3 is another method often used to forward mail to new mail addresses. At this time ProtonMail does not offer POP3 services.

If there were a method for me to export my Yahoo email to proton mail I would ditch my Yahoo email. There are emails I don’t care about but other that I need. I realize there is storage limitation but I think this feature should be a priority and would get a lot more people excited about using Proton mail

I would agree, I just can’t seem to figure out how to get rid of email that I am keeping in case i need it in the future? I know that it makes security breeches easier, but I have to keep some stuff for reference. Maybe a premium feature with a pay for more room tier?

Anyways, love your product and glad you are here.
    Thanks.

Will there be a way to set up forwarding from Gmail? I can’t get it to work as of now and have no knowledge of how to get it to work if it can.

    You can:
    A) forward your important emails to Proton or,
    B) Link your old email account to Proton for legacy transition:
    https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/transitioning-from-gmail-to-protonmail/
Most important to remember though, emails send through yahoo/gmail servers are no longer end-to-end encrypted.

If the old mail account where you’re activating the forwarding is also your backup account (used by protonmail for login password resets) make sure the forwarding keeps a copy of the mails. Otherwise you won’t be able to read your reset token once you need it.

at this time ,I must fetch my protonmail directly in my domain adress and insead I would like to pick it up among other mails such as Gmail or Hotmail – each of them beeing kept individually – but at the same place on my computer. I.E.Windows live mail.

POP 3 is a must these days. Until that is implemented; I doubt there will be high usage. It’s all about easy of use vs. NSA level security.

I just wanted to switch to Protonmail, but I found that I can’t import messages from gmail and I can’t set my other e-mails as pop3+smtp e-mails in Protonmail. I am afraid I can’t switch to Protonmail because of that.

hi Protonmail and thanks for a great product.

this might be a dumb question but i cannot seem to find the option to automatically forward emails from my protonmail account… is this feature indeed lacking or have i just not found it?

    cheers,

    Guy

    Hi,
Unfortunately, we do not support auto-forwarding at this moment. We are planning on implementing this feature in the future.

Como configuro protonmail del modo pop???

  13. ProtonMail Support

At this time Protonmail does not support IMAP/SMTP or POP3 due to the technology ProtonMail utilizes within web browsers to encrypt and decrypt your messages. We apologize for the inconvenience and are working on creative solutions to allow IMAP/SMTP use.

is there any way to set up “NEW Mail Alerts” to have proton mail send an alert to another email when new mail arrives?

  15. ProtonMail Support

    Hi,
You can enable the daily notifications: https://protonmail.com/support/knowledge-base/notification-email/
Currently, we do not allow a notification for each new email due to the increased load and possibility of spam.

To forward your mail from Gmail to Protonmail just sign in to your Gmail account, then go to Settings, then go to Forwarding and POP/IMAP, then click on Add a forwarding address, then follow instructions. It is simple.

Is there a way making some e-mails sent to proton mail forwarded to others e-mail?
I would like to forward some e-mails received by proton mail to others.
I hope this feature added in near future

  18. ProtonMail Support

For now we do not have an auto-forward option, you can only forward individual messages.

  19. Katelynn

Is there a difference in security between forwarding mail to ProtonMail the way that Michail describes above (by setting up auto-forward from the other email server) versus manually forwarding individual messages? Are the emails fully encrypted in both scenarios? Thanks in advance for your answer and support 🙂

  20. ProtonMail Support

There is no difference. In both cases the messages are not end-to-end encrypted because you use a different service. The messages are encrypted once they get to our servers.

Hi guys, great mail client, but i can’t seem to find a way to set an automated out of office sort of reply?
    thanks!

  24. ProtonMail Support

Thank you for your support! At this moment, we do not have auto-reply option. We are planning to implement this in the future.

How do I add Proton email account under my Mac mail file? When I attempt to add you as a server under Internet Accounts, Proton is not recognized as a server…( gather you are not a server).

  26. ProtonMail Support

At this moment you can’t use ProtonMail with third party applications. We are working on enabling this in the future.

  27. m

can we forward protonmail to another email account?

  28. ProtonMail Support

At this time no because this is a spam risk.
