For improved email security, ProtonMail as built in support for the following three Password Managers: LastPass, KeePass, and 1Password. Below, we will show you how to configure them to work with ProtonMail. Other password managers may also work, but we did not test them extensively.
One of the benefits of using a password manager is the ability to create a different password for every different account you have on the internet. This ensures that if any one password is ever compromised, all your other accounts will remain secure. In addition, password managers let your brain take a break from password memorization, allowing you to create much more complex passwords since they are all stored in a central location off your human hard drive.
Using a password manager is a healthy step toward ensuring you are keeping your internet accounts secure. Every ProtonMail account has two passwords: a login password and a mailbox password, which can make using a password manager a bit more tricky than a typical internet login. We try to make the process as seamless as possible, including a dedicated password manager button on the login screens of the mobile application to allow “one click login.”
