ProtonMail offers premium plans for the users that want to have more features, and to have the ability to use their own custom domain. There are several ways to pay when you upgrade to a premium plan.
ProtonMail accepts payments via credit card, PayPal and BitCoin. You can complete your payment by selecting the plan you are interested in the Dashboard tab in your Settings.
Once you select the plan you are interested you will see the following screen allowing you to input your payment information.
To pay with a credit card you need to:
- Select the credit card option in the dropdown menu (this is select by default)
- Fill in the details of the card
- Click submit
Please be sure to review your payment credentials prior to selecting Submit.
Once you click Submit, your card will be charged the Total amount. If the charge succeeds, your account will automatically be upgraded with the new premium features and higher limits.
- Select the PayPal option from the drop down menu
- Click on “check out with PayPal”
- In the pop-up window log in with your PayPal account
Once you log in on PayPal, and confirm in the pop-up window, you will be brought back to your ProtonMail inbox and your account will be upgraded.
Please note: The PayPal payment option is currently available only for 2-year plans.
To use Bitcoin as a payment option, you must first have an existing ProtonMail account. If you do not have a ProtonMail account and you want to pay with Bitcoin, create a free account first at protonmail.com/signup. Then follow the instructions here.

You can upgrade or downgrade your account at any time and receive prorated pricing based on your existing account level.
For enhanced privacy, we allow our users to pay for their accounts with cash. But before you send in your payment, you must first have an existing ProtonMail account. You can create a free account at protonmail.com/signup.
Once your account is set up, you must contact the ProtonMail support team to arrange a payment with cash. Send an email to email@example.com, and be sure to specify your login name and the plan you wish to subscribe to. Our support team will respond to you with details about next steps.
