Windows Phone (browser only)

You can visit ProtonMail on most Windows mobile devices, through an updated browser.

At this time Protonmail does not integrate with third party email clients on Windows due to the technology ProtonMail utilizes within web browsers to encrypt and decrypt your messages. We apologize for the inconvenience.

At this time ProtonMail is not building a Windows mobile application; however, we are planning on implementing a Windows application in the future. At this moment we are focusing on custom domains, threading, premium and business accounts, so we do not have an estimated date for the application.

    Windows Phone 10 is coming.

Microsoft as bought the handset end of the business from Nokia and is really pushing inexpensive Nokia Lumia smartphones such as the Lumia 635. I believe the Windows phone market will grow more rapidly with the direct push from Microsoft. I don’t think this market shoud be ignored.

Prontonmail should consider creating apps for all three major platforms. IOS, Android and Windows Phone. Not only because WP is a lovely platform but also because W10 will be available later this year. W10 should give Windows a bigger market share.

  4. Andreuw

A Windows app (universal app), please!

  5. Oli

A windows app would be nice… hope it’s going to happen soon!

  6. Domi

Have you reconsidered your decision now that Windows 10 has been released to millions of devices and a universal app would hence make sense?

  7. Tristan

I consider iOS to closed, Android to open(and security update process broken) WP sits nicely in the middle though their new privacy policy is a step in the wrong direction. upvote for support though!

    Hello,
Thank you to develop an application for windows phone or windows10.

  13. mariusdk

Windows 10 FREE phone and desktop SDK makes it very easy to port/ launch your existing apps for other platforms to the windows store with ZERO EXTRA CODING!! I think you should use this feature. – Marius

The Windows Phone — now Windows 10 — platform is user-friendly and should gain market share. It also comes with good security features while being flexible (if not open). It makes a good companion platform for a secure email service like ProtonMail

  15. Chris

I would also love to see an Windows Universal App running on my Lumia 640.
And the app would also run on every PC out there – great way to get your Service distributed!

I fully agree Do app for Windows Phone , Windows , including 10 , is easy using the Xamarin a ” Convert ” Roughly speaking , but the tendency is to grow the phone windows market not only domestic but most commercial part . I give full support if you need , including donation to the development for 10 windows mobile ( that with the opening of the same pro development)

  21. Rive

Windows 10 Mobile/UWP or Windows Phone 8.1 app would be really appreciated — Lumia devices are quite popular in Russia and making ProtonMail app would be much convenient and functional than just using a browser.

  22. Anton

    Please make UWP version

Push for WP here as well.

An app is needed for Windows: I would like to have trustworthy app on my laptop and mobile. And guess what? That’s a one-time exercise in Windows (take that Apple)

You can port your iOS app to Windows phone 10 using project Islandwood until you have the time & resources to build a true UWP app for all Windows 10 devices.

Would use protonmail as primary if there was WP8 application.

  51. protonmailuser

Please, make the app for Windows 10 (mobile and desktop)!

  52. Jarrod

Definitely would like a Windows phone app for protonmail. I have many clients that use Windows phone, that I would like to switch to protonmail without having to use it through the browser.

  53. Avatar X (@AvatarX)

A Windows 10 Universal App would be the way to go. That way it would work in both Windows Phone and Windows 10 tablets 10″ or smaller. That would be great.

  54. Matt

Make an app for Windows Mobile please!

  55. Steve C

I agree with Avatar X: a Windows 10 Universal App would be the way to go.

  56. tridy

  60. sle

Well seems still no app for WP – sad as always – such a nice OS and the mainstream has an app. A pity. Using proton is great but with webfrontend you have no inbox alert .. Well just hope there will be once a universal or WP app anyway.

  61. vattila

    I Lumia 640 XL Win10 user.
    Go go gadget! 🙂

  62. Jean

You need too create a Windows universal app, which will be usable on win10 smartphone, tablet, laptop and desktop PC. All that in a single app, I think it definitely worth it !!

  63. Marco

I understand numbers but… after 2 years would be nice to see a Windows Phone 10 app.

  67. Anonymous

Yeah they don’t want to create an app for less than 1% people. Not their fault, Windows Phone is dead..

A Windows 10 client would be great for mobile/tablet/convertible/desktop because W10 will be soon available on mobile so.

  74. jo

Yes, 1% but 90% of the 1% market share are heavy business users!

So,the actual number of potential clients is much higher than the 1% market share, there are no gaming kids among win 10 mobile users.

Please launch win 10 mobile app!

  75. DrJT

On second thoughts – I don’t want a windows phone app if it could reduce security. I don’t mind taking the time to read and respond to e-mails when I can use a keyboard and enjoy my sense of privacy.

  76. L H

Windows 10 App needed, at least for premium accounts!

  77. Jazil Zaim

Thank god Protonmail didn’t go that way and build a Windows 10 Mobile app. Turned out to be a complete failure once again which means the developers that developed for WM10 have also wasted their time and resources.

  78. Camilla

I have a Lumia 635 with Win8 and need to read my emails in a quickly and secure way. App for Win Phone is needed. Thanks.

  79. MS Paint Customer Service

Windows Phone 8 only Under Open links from other apps in, select A new tab to open pages in their own tabs or The current tab to continue browsing in the same tab after you tap a link.

I have a lumia 925 with WP8.1 and cannot even log in on protonmail by the webbrowser of my phone.
Anybody a idea how to fix this?

  81. Shane

Hi- I very much would like to use ProtonMail but I have a Windows 8 Phone. If I can’t access email on my phone, even by the web browser, I can’t really use ProtonMail. Should I abandon ProtonMail and look elsewhere? Please reply, thanks.

  82. ProtonMail Support

Unfortunately, even Microsoft basically abandoned Windows phone/mobile. If a Windows phone browser supports the necessary encryption features, you should be able to use ProtonMail with that browser.

  83. Les Howard

I have a Windows 10 mobile with Edge browser. I cannot get behind entering my em address and password when the screen goes no further. I cannot find a protonmail app to download onto my phone. Help, please

  84. Les Howard

I have windows 10/ edge Lumia 650 mobile and can’t see how to download a protonmail app for it. As is, I rely on a link to the Protonmail sign in page but on entering my email address and password, the screen stands still – can’t get to my emails. Has anyone got any idea how I can access my mails on my phone?

  85. Возможность звонить внутри программы

Я могу, добавив в контакт номер телефона звонить другому контакут внутри Protona?

  86. ProtonMail Support

If you have a phone number added to a contact, the app will open your phone’s default dialer when you tap it. You can then use the default dialer app to call your contact.
